I’m going to keep this short. There’s a Democrat in AZ-8 who is of the opinion that people in his district deserve a choice on election day. Unfortunately, the Congressional seat there has been uncontested, with no Democrat running, for several cycles. Joe DeVivo wants to change that.
Joe is offering, in this red district, to be a candidate for everyone - be a good listener, be an outsider’s voice - but without compromising on several core progressive principles, which you can read about on his website. Joe DeVivo (who is also an old friend of mine, full disclosure) is an honest, smart, thoughtful person, who, from gun control to climate change, from marriage equality to women’s rights (aka human rights) is as solid as anyone here on the issues.
How can you help Joe?
1.If you live in AZ-8, write-in “DeVivo, Joe” on the ballot during tomorrow’s — that’s August 30th — primary election (oh, and be a registered Democrat or Independent).
2.If you DON’T live in AZ-8, tell everyone you know who does that there’s a Democrat who wants to run and let them know to write in “DeVivo, Joe” tomorrow.
3. Lastly, for EVERYONE, please rec this diary. (Pretty please, with cream and sugar on top). I generally feel sheepish asking for recs in my diaries — but I’m not asking for the personal glory here. I’m asking for democracy. We shouldn’t be leaving any districts on the table. In a year when we’re looking to make historic gains, the least we can offer the good people of AZ-8 is the chance to vote for a Democratic representative in Congress.
